data sheet 2 rev. 2.6, 2007-03-20 tle 4276 functional description the tle 4276 is a low-drop vo ltage regulator in a to pack age. the ic regu lates an input voltage up to 40 v to v q,nom = 5.0 v (v50), 8.5 v (v85), 10 v (v10) and ad justable voltage (v). the maximum output current is 400 ma. the ic can be switched off via the inhibit input, which causes the current consumptio n to drop below 10 a. the ic is short-circuit- proof and includes temperature protection whic h turns off the device at overtemperature. dimensioning in formation on exte rnal components the input capacitor c i is necessary for compensation of line influences. using a resistor of approx. 1 in series with c i , the oscillating of input in ductivity and in put capacitance can be damped. the output capacitor c q is necessary for the st ability of the regulation circuit. stability is guaranteed at values c q 22 f and an esr of 3 within the operating temperature range. circuit description the control amplifier compares a reference volt age to a voltage that is proportional to the output voltage and drives the base of the seri es transistor via a buffe r. saturation control as a function of the load cu rrent prevents any oversaturati on of the power element. the ic also incorporates a nu mber of internal circuits for protection against: ? overload ? overtemperature ? reverse polarity

data sheet 10 rev. 2.6, 2007-03-20 tle 4276 application information for variable output regulator tle 4276 v, sv, dv, gv the output voltage of the tle 4276 v can be adjusted between 2.5 v and 20 v by an external output voltag e divider, closing the control lo op to the voltage adjust pin va. the voltage at pin va is compared to the intern al reference of typica l 2.5 v in an error amplifier. it contro ls the outpu t voltage. figure 5 application detail external components at output for variable voltage regulator the output voltage is calculated according to equation (1) : v q = ( r 1 + r 2 )/ r 2 v ref , neglecting i va (1) v ref is typically 2.5 v. to avoid errors caus ed by leakage current i va , we recommend to choose the resistor value r 2 according to equation (2) : r 2 < 50 k (2) for a 2.5 v output voltage th e output pin q is directly connected to th e adjust pin va. the accuracy of the resistors r 1 and r 2 add an additional error to the output voltage tolerance. the operation range of th e variable tle 4276 v is v q + 0.5 v to 40 v. for internal biasing a minimum input volta ge of 4.3 v is required. for outpu t voltages below 4 v the voltage drop is 4.3 v - v q aeb02804 current and saturation control internal reference 2.5 v typical 5 v ref r 2 r 1 c q 22 f q va 4
